Investing in African Mining Indaba 2012 Online Review

CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- The most optimistic of projections suggests a shortage of 20,000 tonnes of critical rare earth metals is likely to develop by 2015, a review of the sector’s status at the Investing in African Mining Indaba conference here this week concluded.

“Based on our analysis, we do agree that these metals should be considered critical and we believe that these metals run the risk of being in critical short supply in the near future,” Lara Smith, managing director of Johannesburg-based Core Consultants, told the conference.
